I was going to create a thread to say this, but it unfortunately told me i wasn't allowed.

Not really a comment about the look of the forum, even although it most certainly is nice & easy to navigate & it's not all cluttered up & full of advertisements like other forums.

I just wanted to say that i found your forum purely by accident when i was about to download a movies on another forum i noticed the password used your URL so being inquisitive i naturally pasted the url into my address bar & was led over here.

Being an avid Sci-Fi buff i simply wanted to say ( WOW ) i am in awe, this place is like my wildest & most pleasant dreams all come true, thanks for creating this phenomenal forum & long may it last.

I know i am going to spend way too much of my time here & i thank all the uploaders who have already posted a whole slew of interesting & exiting stuff for me to slowly download & watch.

Welcome on board.

As for the style. When this thread was created we used a different style, but for different reasons we had to revert to the default one. I don1t want to install any new skin on the forum because in a week or so the forum will be updated and the wouldn't work anyway. However, a new nice skin is being developed. Here is a little taste, how it will look like:



As for opening a thread. Unfortunately we had some trouble with autoposting spammers posting fake downloads all over the forum, so right now every member has to have at least 5 posts in order to open a new thread. This decision proved to be a good one, because we haven't had any spamming since then.

Ahh i see, the trusty old spammers & posting bots, you just gotta love them, ... lol

In which case i will make a point of replying to a few threads here & there & hopefully i will be able to find some stuff that i have that isn't posted so i can become a more active user & contributor on this wonderful forum.

Also, i love the look of the new theme you are thinking of introducing, very sweet looking, i normally use vbulletin as my chosen forum software but i must confess that BB is very user friendly & the page load times also seem faster than vbulletin, i think i may switch my forum over to BB as it is very intuitive.

Thanks for letting me know about the five post reason, but in all honesty i noticed your user information image on the main page after i created my first post.

I have all of the Star Trek & Star Wars movies in high def mkv format & i will hopefully be able to start uploading them in a day or two, but i must be honest, as they are an average of Six:GB each i will only be able to post one movie every two or three days as my upload speed is really bad, i can only upload about 200:Mb an hour so it will take me 30:hrs just to upload one movie but i will try it & see how it goes.

I use vBulletin also on another site, but honestly what they did to this version4 is a disaster. It's slow and after every upgrade i'm facing new bugs which sometimes ruin the whole site.

Even small uploads are appreciated.

I'm a bit confused
The options are Default & User default, but they are identical. Have I missed something??
Was hoping there is a dark style, you know - something spacey, black background with stars / planets. Or just plain black, white trashes my eyes! (Any chance of a dark background option some time in the future perhaps??) Despite that grievance, place looking great! Like the look of the up & coming banner too, very smick indeed!

Anyway, look forward to spending a bit of web time here.

btw will help where i can with uploads, though I don't expect I will be able to contribute excessively, pretty budget upload speed & busy existence. But I do have heaps of Audio books / radio dramas which I could up without too much hassle.

Additionally, the other board I mentioned above (in my other post) uses Encryption with all its links. They've had huge success in stopping links from being killed off. Maybe something that you should consider down the path. They use a system of allocated credits, the more you post the more credits you gain. Credits are used to access one download link. You contribute 30 posts you get 30 credits = 30 downloads. These are refreshed every hour though you have to wait 1 hr for each / every credit you use. There is a golden number of posts which also gets you credit free access. I initially thought it was a terrible frustrating idea, but it works so well. People also post like crazy to get credits up & reach that golden post limit for unhindered access. (posts have to be quality i.e downloads or assistance, no Thankyou posts allowed!) Ultimately it gets rid of all the people that hang around just to mess all your the hard work up. Happy to pm you the locale (for research purposes) if you dont know it already.

I'm also considering using the credit plugin, though I'm not sure how advanced it is right now for MyBB. And also planning the Thanks plugin to minimize the one word posts.

I wanted these hacks implemented long ago, but a major new version will be released for the forum software in a few days and those hack would have to be redesigned anyway, so I decided to wait with them.

Yep - The Encryption hack hides the links in posts.
A"Thanks" plugin is a great idea, gets rid of excessive posts for people graciously typing their thanks and streamlines posts to legit questions, comments & thread enrichment. A more rewarding experience for all users.
My opinion for credit initiation is be sure to reward those who post generously with an maximum post credit removal point as described in my above post. Gives posters something to aim for.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, be great to have a long term "Log in" option for these forums. You log in once, as long as you visit regularly you stay logged in. Chance?

In the new version there will be a "Remember me" option on log in, so yes.

Hi everyone, looks like a great place. I'm excited, never seen a forum dedicated to SciFi, and I love my SciFi. Looks like a fairly new place, have patience, I know from experience that it takes a while for a brand new forum to get started and advertised. "Build it and they will come." I thought I'd try to make a small contribution here; I have been doing a collection on classic 50's to early 60's SciFi movies for the last couple of years, if you want to grab any of these movies and post them or reup them and post them, have fun. I would do it myself but honestly I don't have the time or ambition anymore. Rapidshare's new structure pretty much put me out of business and honestly I was getting burnt out anyway. I had all the links up and running until Rapidshare's change, don't know how many got deleted during that change, but if you see anything you'd like reuploaded, let me know and I'll do it.
